AssetWise 4D Analytics gives users the ability to create asset hierarchies (i.e., a tree like structure that contains multiple levels of containers and measurement points). Often, a user will find that they need to create the same, perhaps large, structure many, many times. To make this task easier, 4D Analytics allows the user to create the structure just once, as a template, and then provide functionality to make multiple copies of that structure. In addition, after copies (instances), of the template are created, and subsequent changes to the template are made, then those changes can also be applied to all instances. This is replication.

Templating and replication have been available in 4D Analytics systems for many years, but until now, creation of new template instances in a live database was an automated process.

With the introduction of manual templating and replication, you can manually create template instances from within the web interface with a simple drag and drop.

This document presents the requirements for a templating and replication system and describes the operations involved in creating instances of templates and replicating changes to those templates.
